There are three Phases to your Trauma Healing Journey:

According to the Clinical Practice Guidelines from the International Society of Trauma Stress Studies (source), the three phases of healing from trauma are:

  1. Strengthening Resilience (Stabilization)
  2. Trauma Processing
  3. Maintenance Mode (Consolidation)

In order to process and heal your trauma, you have to first develop specific skills so that you don’t re-trigger your traumatic experiences and increase your degree of stress damage from your trauma, cPTSD or PTSD.

We focus exclusively on those skills in the Strengthening Resilience Membership to build up your trust in yourself and prepare you for the trauma work that is to come.

Who am I and why should you listen to me?

As a Registered Nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit, I started to notice that the majority of the reasons people found themselves in the ICU were because of illnesses and diseases that could be linked to chronic stress. 

I knew that if I truly wanted to help people, I had to get out of the reactive side of medicine and start showing people how to prevent or reverse the negative health effects of stress.

After just a few months, it became clear to me that those of us who are highly sensitive are more prone to experiencing trauma because of our nature, and that those patterns we’ve learned to keep ourselves safe can be very detrimental to us as adults. We’re more prone to being in unhealthy relationships, having next to no work-life balance, being used, abused and walked over which leads to higher chances of negative health outcomes.

This led me down a beautiful journey of learning, expanding my practice as a nurse into the mental health field, and eventually through my own trauma processing experience.

I’ve been helping people in this space for over 8 years, in the personal, clinical, group and corporate settings. Every year I continue to learn, research, and grow my practice to better serve those I help.

Our‌ ‌bodies‌ ‌are‌ ‌so‌ ‌attuned‌ ‌to‌ ‌our‌ ‌habits‌ ‌that‌ ‌we‌ ‌actually‌ ‌create‌ ‌chemicals‌ ‌and‌ ‌hormones‌ ‌that‌ ‌keep‌ ‌us‌ ‌liking‌ ‌the‌ ‌status‌ ‌quo.‌ ‌When‌ ‌our‌ ‌lives‌ ‌stay‌ ‌the‌ ‌same,‌ ‌we‌ ‌get‌ ‌some‌ ‌feel-good‌ ‌hormones‌ ‌circulating‌ ‌because‌ ‌we’re‌ ‌keeping‌ ‌things‌ ‌as‌ ‌they‌ ‌are.‌ ‌

But‌ ‌when‌ ‌we‌ ‌start‌ ‌to‌ ‌stretch‌ ‌out‌ ‌of‌ ‌that‌ ‌comfort‌ ‌zone‌ ‌and‌ ‌even‌ ‌consider‌ ‌changing‌ ‌a‌ ‌habit‌ ‌our‌ ‌body’s‌ ‌chemical‌ ‌response‌ ‌is‌ ‌to‌ ‌send‌ ‌out‌ ‌stress‌ ‌hormones‌ ‌in‌ ‌an‌ ‌effort‌ ‌to‌ ‌protect‌ ‌itself.‌ ‌

And‌ ‌our‌ ‌body‌ ‌and Inner Critic does‌ ‌this‌ ‌without‌ ‌accessing‌ ‌our‌ ‌logic‌ ‌brain.‌ ‌

So‌ ‌that‌ ‌means‌ ‌even‌ ‌though‌ ‌you‌ ‌may‌ ‌know‌ ‌that‌ ‌this‌ ‌change‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌considering‌ ‌might‌ ‌be‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌best‌ ‌–‌ ‌our‌ ‌body‌ ‌sends‌ ‌out‌ ‌chemicals‌ ‌and‌ ‌hormones‌ ‌that‌ ‌make‌ ‌it‌ ‌feel‌ ‌scary.‌ ‌

So‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌not‌ ‌necessarily‌ ‌that‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌doubting‌ ‌yourself.‌ ‌

Your‌ ‌body’s‌ ‌chemical‌ ‌messengers‌ ‌are‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌keep‌ ‌you‌ ‌in‌ ‌your‌ ‌current‌ ‌circumstances‌ ‌because‌ ‌–‌ ‌from‌ ‌their‌ ‌perspective‌ ‌–‌ ‌this‌ ‌is‌ ‌safer.‌ ‌

But‌ ‌you’re‌ ‌here‌ ‌reading‌ ‌this‌ ‌right‌ ‌now‌ ‌because‌ ‌you‌ ‌don’t‌ ‌want‌ ‌your‌ ‌life‌ ‌to‌ ‌stay‌ ‌the‌ ‌same.‌ ‌
